Halloween party? Try these healthy, spooky menu ideas

Apple Almond-Butter Monster Bites


  • 2 green apples cut into quarters
  • 3 tbsp smooth almond butter
  • 1/4 cup unsalted sunflower seeds 
  • 10 strawberries, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup each white chocolate chips and dark chocolate chips


  • Cut the middle out of the apple quarters 
  • Line the inside of the apple quarters (both top and bottom) with almond butter
  • Place sunflower seeds along the top of the apple "mouth", pressing seeds into the top of the apple like "teeth" 
  • Place 1 sliced strawberry "tongue" along the bottom of the apple mouth
  • Melt the white chocolate to create the whites of eyes and finish with dark chocolate chips in the middle


Banana Coconut Ghosts with Dark Chocolate 

  • 5 bananas
  • 1/4 cup semi-sweet dark chocolate chips 
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened shredded coconut 


  • Peel bananas and cut them in half
  • Roll bananas in shredded coconut until covered 
  • Press pointed end of chocolate chips into banana pieces as eyes and melt remaining chocolate to create oval-shaped ghost mouths 
  • Once chocolate is hardened, stand up on plate and serve 



Vampire Blood Spicy Virgin Cesar Shooters 


  • 4 cups clamato juice 
  • 1 tbsp grainy mustard 
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 
  • 3 tbsp hot sauce (eg. Franks Red Hot) 
  • Juice and zest of one lime 
  • 1 tsp celery seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste 


  • Mix all ingredients together 
  • Fill a large punch bowl with crushed ice 
  • Pour vampire blood Cesar mix into test tubes and place standing in bowl of ice 


Stuffed Dates with Bugs 


  • 30 dried dates
  • 4 oz goat cheese 
  • 1/2 chopped walnuts
  • zest of one orange 
  • 2 tbs chopped fresh mint  


  • Remove pits from dates and set aside
  • Stir all remaining ingredients together and fill dates with filling - pressing filling down deep into the date so it doesn't pop out of the top
  • Place stuffed dates in a bowl 
  • Top with dark brown coloured plastic bugs
